Celebrating the Milestones of IIAD Faculty in 2023-24

Here are some noteworthy accomplishments of IIAD faculty during the year 2023-24: 

1. Prof. Snehanshu Mukherjee (Course Leader, Interior Architecture Design)

- Prof. Snehanshu Mukherjee, Course Leader, Interior Architecture Design (IIAD), was featured in an interview conducted by MGS Architecture magazine. His interview talks about how to adapt and equip students with relevant skills and knowledge and the integration of industry practices within classrooms, facilitated by engaging in live projects.

- Prof. Snehanshu states “The way forward should have always remained rooted in our traditional craft industries. Design schools need to urgently return to that pedagogy to not only encourage sustainable design principles but also establish an Indian identity in their designs.”

- He also co-authored the book titled 'Renewing Design with Communities' along with researcher and designer Anisha Shekhar Mukherji. The book features nine insightful essays contributed by a dozen seasoned professionals, with his significant contribution. These professionals have dedicated their careers to pioneering innovative approaches to design and construction. The essays provide profound insights about design as a powerful force for inclusivity, sustainability and active community engagement. 

- Participating in the panel discussion on "Architecture Education," Prof. Snehanshu Mukherjee contributed to the discourse organised by The Architects Association Agra (AAA) at the Convention Centre, Agra.

- For the 75th edition of the LA Journal India, Prof. Snehanshu authored an article titled "Landscape, Culture, and Space," emphasising the interconnectedness of culture, economics, and architecture.

- He attended the conference titled ‘ From Libraries to Laboratories ’: A Conclave for Creating Curriculum and Course Content for Practicing Indic Architecture, hosted by the Department of Heritage Science and Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad.

- He also attended the conference titled ‘Architecture of Transitions: Framework Practices in South Asia’ held at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi. 

2. Shaaz Ahmed (Associate Professor, Communication Design)

- Shaaz Ahmed (Associate Professor, Communication Design, IIAD) authored an article titled "A Tryst Expanded Animation" in Arthart: The Arts in Dialogue magazine.

- With over two decades spent exploring animation, design, and the art of storytelling, Shaaz has been recognised for his innovative approach to visual narratives. His work constantly pushes the boundaries of methods and mediums, captivating audiences with his unique vision.

- In his article, he expands upon how his quest for knowledge and growth helped him master cutting-edge technologies and led him to endless possibilities in the domain of animation. In addition to his rich experience of collaborating with industry luminaries, Shaaz sheds light on some projects that have evolved his perspective, propelling him to explore more. 

3. Ravish Pandey (Lecturer, Foundation in Design)

- Ravish Pandey (Lecturer, Foundation in Design at IIAD) won awards for Best Documentary Film and Best Mobile Phone Film at the Himachal Short Film Festival for his compelling documentary project titled 'INSIGHT/OUTSIDE.'

- Commemorating the three-decade artistic journey of sculptor and practising artist Kishore Chakraborty (Associate Professor, Foundation in Design), the film not only illuminates Chakraborty's creative expression but also underscores the potential of mobile filmmaking in the contemporary cinematic landscape.

- The film is an 18-minute exploration of Chakraborty's life and artistic works. Through curated visuals complemented by a symphony of emotive musical backdrops and evocative voiceovers, the audience is invited to witness the cinematic and artistic tapestry of Chakraborty.

4. Josh P.S. (Associate Professor, Foundation In Design)

- Josh P.S. (Associate Professor, Foundation in Design) exhibited his emotive oil-on-canvas painting, 'Kalinga,' at the 'Inscapes: In Search of a Place' Exhibition at Bikaner House, New Delhi, curated by Premjish Achari. 

- This artwork is a testament to his dedication to using art as a powerful tool for social commentary and historical exploration.

- For over 20 years, Josh has enthralled audiences with his solo shows, each one a platform for expressing his artistic truth and unwavering social conscience.
